Hello,
I’m just working on a new logo and letterhead for fun here. If you could maybe let me know what you think that would be awesome. I’m also looking at a few different name ideas, however I am stumped because a quick Google search will show that all of the names that I’ve chosen have been taken.

Just thought I’d throw up a quick post here saying that I’ve had a great/poor weekend. I was able to get out and do some shooting at a local soccer game. Images turned out great and the 70-200 performed like a champ. I also went to my friends CD release show and shot that as well, images from that can be seen at flickr.
On the poor side of things, I dropped my Camera. No lenses were attached, but I did break part of the flash/prism assembly. The part that says Nikon on it. Yah, gone. Checking with the insurance company tomorrow to see if everything is kosher and that I can get some money for it.
That’s all for now,
Matthew
Due to my recent activities with school and classmates. I have had an increasing desire to make the Iowa Sunbounce. Which is a DIY version of the California Sunbouce. Which is way too expensive. The only thing stopping me in the past for the Iowa Sunbounce was the fact that it had no way to attach a flash like the CSB. I wasn’t about to drop $110 plus shipping on a boom arm made by CSB so I decided to set out and make my own arm.
Four hours later, I realized that the answer was in front of me the whole time. I searched through google pages, photo.net, flickr, adorama, amazon, ritz, manfrotto, CSB and many other web pages to see if I could get a clue as to how to make one. I searched for: clamp, flash clamp, flash boom, boom, flash arm, boom clamp, boom arm, flash boom arm, flash csb, flash csb arm, etc. You get the point. I went and looked at the Iowa Sunbounce one more time and realized, that if I rotated the T bracket that he used and then attached the boom via bolt there, I could put a flash head for a light stand at the other end! Simple!
I had the time and joy of visiting Canada’s Pacific Rim National Park Reserve over the past weekend with my lovely girlfriend. We stayed in a nice little cottage in Ucluelet (just south of the actual park, on Canada’s wet coast) where we had the luxury of a dry roof over our heads. Did I mention that it rained while we were there? As we were driving from Port Alberni to Ucluelet, we had to go over Sutton Pass. With the windshield wipers on full, we drove the rain, then the slush, then the snow, and finally the rain. Never once going over around 60 km/h or turning down the wiper speed from super fast. It was our second day, we decided to go for a walk. It was raining. Not like a typical rainfall on Canada’s west coast. It was like taking a shower, with a fire hose, for an hour; only it took just 5 minutes to be that wet. Once arriving at Wickaninnish beach we (read: I) found ourselves overloaded with camera gear.
I made a quick trip back to the car to drop off a few, unnecessary items. The beach was in it’s west coast beauty. Fog surrounded our small wet bodies as we wandered through the seaweed and driftwood.
It’s been a while, but I thought I’d throw these up. They are with my version of a poor man’s macro. Google it. I used a nikon 50mm 1.8 and 85mm 1.8 to achieve this effect.
School is going well. For instance, I worked on this picture while we learned how to use layer masks. That is, that I finished the assignment as it was being handed out.
In other news, I’m going to be putting up a portrait portfolio on my other website. Just a few more pictures are to be fiddled with and then they will go up. Here’s a sneak preview

I recently ventured up to Jordan River with a few friends from school. We all went up for the morning. The sky was overcast,
yet still very harsh. Out of all the pictures that I took up there, I really only brought back a few. I did however bring an idea back with me. I plan on heading back up there and doing some shots of the logging camps, rivers, and the town. I’d like to get some people involved with it as well, I might not have the courage yet to just ask them to stand still while I take their picture. I’m hoping that I can head up in the next couple of days, before it gets nice out again. On another note, I’m going to take this opportunity to promote my website again, it’s www.matthewkerrphotography.com. I will be adding a portfolio page as time goes by and my portfolio grows. I will also be updating all of the many grammatical errors that are littering the pages. The picture on the left is a bunch of rocks that, due to either the river or the tides, were jammed between the log supports near the bridge in Jordan River. Below is a shot of all the supports that were in the area.

Local Band Apparatus Theory asked me to take some pictures for promotion work. This is one of the shots that we all liked. Apparatus Theory can be heard on MySpace. If you’re interested in getting some pictures of your band, send me a shout or check out the other site!
I know there is some errors, I’m in the process of fixing them. Also, Nikon Rumors got a facelift too. Check them out here.
I tried doing some long exposures a few weeks back with my D80, I got the exposure from cranking the ISO to ‘3200′ (hi1.0) on my d80, then opening the lens to f/2.8 and I got a shutter speed of 1 minute. That being said I did the math, of getting to ISO 400 (3 stops) and f/8 (3 stops) for a total of 6 stops of light less than before. That being said I need 64 minutes on the shutter! The original ISO 3200 shot worked, but was horrible quality, and really bad noise. I figured, that the 64 minute exposure would work. No. I did some research and found that the D80 has a maximum recommended exposure time of just 30 minutes. So much for 4 hour star trails, I guess I’ll be breaking out the Canon FTb for those ones. Would a Holga work? Maybe with some elastic bands.
Some pictures from my field trip to Goldstream Park with school. I’m finding it somewhat of a disappointment. I’m not learning nearly enough to keep me interested as of yet.

EDIT – I’ve added my new website for Matthew Kerr Photography to the intertubes! Check it out, if you dare!
