I got a roll of film from my holga developed today, got home, started scanning. All the shots were, well, shit. I was using expired film (135 format) and I suppose that would have something to do with it, although, I used expired film from the last roll of 135 shot in my holga. These are the pictures, as best as I could salvage them.

I finally figured out how to scan my 35mm negatives that I shot with my Holga, It only took me all afternoon to get them on to my computer, and then it took a while to figure out which ones to put up here. There is more on my flickr site, so check out these ones and then flip over to flickr by clicking on any of the pictures. Enjoy.

I just picked up my Canon Canoscan 8800F from work today, it took me a little while to install. I actually re-installed it twice and had to reboot my computer about 8 times, however, all is well. I had about 3 rolls of film, plus 2 rolls 120 to scan. I can do a roll of 36 in about 1 1/2 hours. The scan speed on a regular picture or document is stupid fast. Here is a few shots that I liked. These and other shots will be in the Canon FTb and Holga 120N sections.

I saw a shot on flickr today, I decided to emulate it. Turned out well, this is the Nikon 50mm* f/1.8 shot with a D80 and 18-135 @ 135mm. I also added some shots to the portraits page.

* – on a digital body, this is actually 75mm

urinetown
If you ever get a chance to go see the musical Urinetown, I highly suggest it. I went over to Saltspring a couple of weekends ago and this was the cast party that I was invited to. Let’s hope the plunger wasn’t ‘used’ for anything other than a prop. Urinetown doesn’t quite top my list of musicals (see: 2007/11/08 ), although it is very close.

I finished my first roll of 35mm film in my Holga and got those negatives developed already. As for my 120 film, I’m on my 2nd roll. I’ll most likely be taking them in on Friday or Saturday to get them sent off for developing. I’ve also decided to wait on my scanner so that I can pay off my Christmas bills first. Then I’ll buy my scanner. So until then, you won’t have any Holga pictures from me.

On another note, I had an old Konica flash that came with my Canon. It works wonders with my Holga!

holga

So, I finally recieved my Holga 120N! It’s a very sketchy camera, I’m trying to find electrical tape to use to tape up the sides of the camera because I fear that the back will come off. My reason for this fear? The neck strap is attached to the very same peices that slide up or down to take the back off. Smart? No. Holga? Hells yes! I’ll post pics as soon as I get them, I’ll also be buying a scanner for them too.

Alright, so I won’t get the camera until monday, but that gives me 2-3 days to play with it before I have to work again. It’s a shame because I’m heading over to Saltspring Island in the next couple of hours and I was hoping to have it with me. That’s okay I’ll take my Nikon and Canon.

The Jitta

'Nuff said.

Well, I’m not sure how they did it, but the Chinese invented a camera called the Holga. It was designed to be an affordable camera for the working class citizen. It’s a medium-format, fixed lens (60mm) camera with 3 shutter speeds (1/125, 1/100, bulb), 2 apertures (f/10, f/13.3), 4 focus points (close, medium, far, infinity). It is one of the simplest cameras to use. The fact that it is entirely plastic (including the lens) makes it somewhat of a cult hit. The camera 120N is available on amazon.com, or from adorama.com. It’s cheaper at adorama, because the shipping cost is cheaper. The whole thing cost me about $50. Thirty of which was shipping costs. Yah, about a $20 camera. I’m hoping it will be as fun as the reviews state, and I’ll be sure to get photos up as soon as I figure out how. It should be arriving late next week.
